Common or Smooth Newts are a sensitive species that are legally protected in Ireland.
It is an offence to kill or disturb Newts and their habitats.
Suitable habitat for Newts are declining, areas of suitable standing water and vegetation are under threat from development including drainage of habitat and infill.
Survey will assess potential appropriate habitat and identify areas of occupation.
Appropriate mitigation measures can be introduced to areas of habitation to reduce impacts and advise in habitat protection in order to comply with legislation.
